Courage for a Single Mom: Eriona’s Story

Two months before her 5th birthday Eriona was diagnosed with absent seizures. Eriona is a beautiful, sweet, and caring 12-year-old girl. Anywhere she went everyone would always notice her smile. She always has a smile on her face no matter what struggles she continues to have. Two to three years ago, Eriona’s mom Erika was able to find somewhat of control of her seizures. Through a great neurologist in St. Petersburg, St. Hopkins Children’s Hospital, they were able to find a medication to control the 90+ absent seizures Eriona was having a day. During all those years of not knowing and trying different combinations of medicines and/or treatments, Epilepsy Alliance Florida has always given the family support.

Eriona’s mother expresses that Epilepsy Alliance Florida has given her courage as a single mother to know that they will help her in any tough situation and give her the support to pay for Eriona’s medication. Erika also enjoys the opportunity to unite with other parents in the support groups provided and is able to speak with parents going through the same thing, as this gives her hope for better days.
